Evening All,

I understand i am a new member on here when it comes to posting but i've searched the whole internet and the only site with people who know what the rules and regs are seem to be on here.

My issue is:

I have recently swapped my cheap toy (mx5) for another car.
my logic behind this was that the new car is worth around 3x what the mx5 was worth.

Only issue being that the new car is a Japanese import registered on Republic of Ireland Plates.

Here is where it gets confusing... The owner of the car had taken deposit from someone else, and in return he gave the guy the irish doc's(Don't ask)
So now i have a japanese car, on irish plates with absolutely no paperwork.

The car is over 10 years old so i believe i only require a MOT.

I have filled in the v55/5 to the best of my ability.
I called up the maker (TOYOTA)today and they state that i must be the owner to get info on Date of Manufacture.(DVLA said this should be accessible to anyone, not just the owner)
I have got the guys phone number who has the papers for the car. He said he would post them. one month on and i still don't have them (he has posted them, supposidely)
I have been told that the car has never been registered on UK roads by previous owner.
I have also tried filling out a NOVA form as instructed by the DVLA but i do not have the suppliers name/address etc so i can't even pretend that i took the car over.

I have not submitted any forms etc yet as i would like the best chance ofit getting accepted first time rather than going back and forth.

I knew this was going to be a pain to work out but it is a nightmare...

What should i do? has anyone been in this position before?
I'm considering just breaking the car for spares, but it would be a shame as it seems to be a good wee car.

Give the date printed on the seatbelts as the date of manufacture.

never thought about that.

on an owners club they use the site below for finding out dates etc. But i don't think DVLA consider it as a legitimate source. (it comes up with the correct year when i type in the VIN no)

I'm going to include a printout of the above site and ill print pics of seatbelt dates also.

(Nothing of any help to add, I'm afraid.)

You searched the whole internet? Yet a quick Google say the build date is on the B pillar.

Failing that... do neither of these help?

Yes i have searched, and my situation seems to be a unique one. The issue isn't just the date of manufacture.

I was asking more if anyone had been in a similar situation, with little/no information and if they were successful in getting a UK reg.

This is my first time registering a car myself, hense why i am asking what others would do in this situation

Why would he contact Mazda for information on a car that a) was already registered to him and b) that he has just swapped for another car which from the information available is probably a Toyota which has no documents?

Correct, it has no Doc's.
I am awaiting this guy sending me the documents (the guy who was originally meant to be buying the car) but I am not holding my breath, hense why I am seeing if anyone else has been stuck in a rut like this

Previous owner must have been registered either with DVLA or NI version - get him to get duplicate docs.

The manufacturer will accept a copy of your receipt as proof of ownership (I've done quite a few through my work) as a logbook only shows the registered keeper, not the owner. Speak to them again and ask for either a dating letter (Porsche charges about £95 as a guide) or better still, depending on age, a certificate of conformity.
