Will ask for some form of payment in advance, and then they are gone

That s2000 was being discussed on s2ki.com the other day, apparently it has come up frequently over the past few years with the same pics.

£4.5k for a 911 or an Elise and you don't think there's something fishy going on?

Definite scam as cars are too cheap, can't see how the scam can generate money though unless some people are complete knob ends.

I emailed about a RR sport the other day, low mileage, but not so cheap as to raise flags. Guy emailed back and said the car was in Poland. I never bothered to email back as it is obviously a scam.

"Usual" story is that the seller is working abroad, or is in the services, blah blah blah. The ads they place are just cut and pasted from genuine adverts. As soon as you ask to view it the excuses start. One seller of a very inexpensive Audi A6 told me he and the car were in Madrid, Spain (are the British Military posted out in mainland Spain?). I emailed him back saying I was only 50 minutes drive away so could see it. His reply was that it was in a secure compound which I would be allowed in. I said I was on my way to view it, but never heard from him again.

They want you to send the money for the car on the promise it will be available. It must work as there are plenty of gullibly trusting people about, and these types of ads keep popping up on even reputable website. The price they advertise them at is often a lot less than they would get from a dealer if they just walked into one off the street and offered them the car.

No need for them to steal a car to sell it-they just need to steal and modify a genuine ad.
