I have my car advertised for sale on another forum.

Someone has been emailing me with questions about the car and trying to negotiate the price down. He originally offered £8000 when the car is advertised for £9500 rolleyes, I have told him my bottom price at present is £9200 as the car is already very well priced.

He has now asked that I have an AA inspection undertaken for which we will split the cost, I would retain the inspection report should he choose not to purchase the car.

The inspection costs £275. At present I've not put a great deal of time in to trying to sell the car (it's only advertised on the forum) and I'm not in a great rush to sell.

What would you do?

Say no thanks.

You could tell him it will take your time to deal with any AA inspection which you will charge at £200 per hour, you will split that with him though...

If he didn't buy the car as a result of the inspection then presumably it's because the inspection report is negative, why would you want to be left with that hehe

If he wants an inspection, let him pay for it. If he doesn't go for the purchase, it'll be due to something contained in the inspection report. Then you'll be left with a written report for which you've paid half of which highlights your vehicle's defects to other buyers.

He pays for the inspection. The result of which can then be a negotiation tool for him. He can't have it both ways. Is he going to offer you more than £9500 if the report says the cars perfect!?!

He wants the reassurance of an inspection at half price. You've got nothing to gain from this so why would you consider paying anything?

Sounds like the sort of person you wouldn't want to sell the car to anyway. Within two weeks he'll be back with a shopping list of faults expecting you to turn it into a new car at at your expense.

That has to be a member of the site.

Tell him to wise up. That's the kind nuisance that will be on the phone everytime a bulb blows.

Hmm, sounds like a time waster at best. Even worse would be if he isn't a time waster and actually buys your car; he will be back in 5 months time complaining about getting a puncture and the brake pads wearing thin... demanding you to contribute to the repair costs.

If I were selling a car I would welcome a buyer having a professional inspection, but it would only be at a time of my convenience and at their cost.

Just don't make any further contact with the potential 'buyer'. Don't even reply declining.

Cut off all further contact. People like that thrive on people like you engaging them.

Timewaster, chancer and even if they did want to buy your car they have zero honour, no class and just want to take the piss.

Maybe wink. Seriously though don't bother, a time waster.

You ask him for £130 & tell him you'll book it & pay the rest yourself smile
