New job...What car to get?!
Discussion
Hi all
I've been a member on PH for a long time, but never really posted much.
I've finally managed to escape the trap of having a company car and I will be buying my own very soon for my new job. I've read loads of 'best car' threads, but none is recent and maybe now there will be some new options with prices falling further!
Here's my situation:
£10k budget (absolute max)
20 mile daily commute (10 each way)
24 years old next month
No kids
Got to be petrol
Don't need space/seats
Needs to be a riot but not cost the earth (25-30mpg with careful driving and not in a ridiculous insurance group)
At the moment it's going to be a RS Clio Cup. The fact they are only 3-4 years old is another plus as well as the fact they are generally great to drive.
Any alternatives please post below!

Get an FN2 Civic Type R, good fun to wring out when you are in the mood, reasonable to pootle about in when you aren't - just avoid the 19" wheels as they ruin the ride.
Expect 23-25mpg around town, its what I get when I use a friends 58 plate one, servicing/parts aren't too dear and they have plenty of room for a three door, the boot is vast, too.
Cars manufactured from March 2010 have an LSD fitted for extra bite when chucking it down a back road, but they are pointy and handle well even without it.
EDIT: I have a Clio 200 Cup as a second car and enjoy it, me and the lad who owns the Civic swap motors out from time to time and both are good cars, I'd rather have the Civic for day to day duty though.

Thanks for the response. I've been looking at the FN2, it's definitely a contender. Only ever been in an EP3 Civic so is it tiring having to reach 8k rpm for the engine's sweet spot.Expect 23-25mpg around town, its what I get when I use a friends 58 plate one, servicing/parts aren't too dear and they have plenty of room for a three door, the boot is vast, too.

Unusually, I quite the looks of the Civic. And interior is still pretty modern even compared with new cars today.

I might be in the same situation as you.
I have basically made my decision and will be going for a BMW 135I M sport. Just got to wait and see how the 2nd interview goes.

I'd love a 135 but haven't seen any under 12k-ish. I don't really fancy a 130 hatch or 125 coupe.

The FN2 creates its torque lower down and the Vtec kicks in slightly lower IIRC, 5,400rpm down from around 5,900/6,000rpm in the EP3 - the 2.0 petrol is fine for duties around town and you won't have any issues in the flow of traffic.Unusually, I quite the looks of the Civic. £10k and no requirements for practicality and you're considering a hatchback?!! WTF.
S2000 + lots of change?
e46 M3?
Monaro?
350Z?
XKR?
May as well get a proper sports car rather than just a sporty-car, or a compromised hot version of an otherwise mundane car (like the Clio). I'm not saying anything against those cars, but....why wouldn't you have a sportscar?!
