The 2000bhp garage (for as little coin as poss)...
Discussion
Hi all,
Well, after my house sells, I'm going to treat myself to some automotive fun. It's been lacking for three (long) years...
So, just for fun I thought I'd attempt to put together 2000bhp(ish) of four-wheeled fun, for as little outlay as possible.
For me, I'll need an estate, a ragtop, and a 4x4. The saloon is for when the dogs are left at home :-)Anything else is for the sheer fun of it.
Estate - 03 Audi RS6. 450bhp. £9000.00, or thereabouts.
Saloon - 05 BMW E60 M5 500bhp £14000.00
Convertible - 03/04 BMW E46 M3. 343bhp. £8000.00 ish.
4x4 - 03/04 Cayenne Turbo. 450bhp. £9000.00
Track/Fun - Westfield/etc 250bhp £10000.00
So, a spend of £50000.00 for just over 2000bhp. I'm a bit tight-fisted with the coin, so if anyone can assemble a better garage for less, go for it!
Left field choices appreciated :-)

Saloon - 1998 XJR 370bhp £3500
Estate - RS6 Avant 444BHP £11000
Conv - 2003 SL55 AMG 500BHP £13000
4x4 - 2002 Dodge RAM SRT10 500BHP £17500
Track / Rally hack - Subaru Impreza (mildy modified) 350bhp £4000
£49000 for ~2164bhp
Swap the RAM for a N/A Cayenne 4.8 gives you £40000 for 2064bhp but its just not as cool!
E500 estate for RS6 drops 56bhp but saves £3000
so I reckon with cayenne and E500 thats £37000 for 2008BHP
EDIT: Prices / specs all based on vehicles in the PH classifieds!

how many asses do you have?
don't see the point of buying 5 cars just so you can say i have this many horse power, seems the opposite of tight fisted
5 uneconomical, still fairly heavily depreciating high tax cars when 2-3 would do
why get a saloon, an estate, a 4x4 and a convertable
replace the the m3+m5 with an m6 convertible, and ditch either the 4x4 or the estate altogether, they are doing the same job
so you get an m6 and a Cayenne Turbo
although an m6 convertible is a bit steep at £22k+, so maybe look at mercedes and get an SL600 or SL 55 amg or 63 of you can find one for a decent price or a jag XKR.
A Cayenne Turbo for £9.5k is likely to be buying a whole load of trouble, and they aren't exactly the best looking 4x4, so you better really want one.
For the fun car, you now have almost enough budget for an M3 CSL
which provided you beat the price down with your strongest Yorkshire accent will never lose you money
£28k as your target price on a csl, £9.5k on your rolling money pit, leaving you £12.5k for your SL or xkr
5 years time, doubt you'll have lost more than £5k, you might even have gained more than that on the CSL
the 5 you picked, you'd easily have lost £10k, and probably spend a few thousands extra in tax insurance and maintenance.
If you've still got a hinkering for the M5 or the audi RS, you can sell the ugly beast and get one of them as an estate hopefully before it's cost you £5k to pay a Porsche specialist to tickle it's underbelly.
In summary, forget the bulls
t about numbers, you don't have a big enough budget for a ferrari 360 and a half decent big car, so you have to buy an M3 CSL instead

Thinking about buying cars and then not doing it?well that's not fun at all

£7k, but you do get more than ten times the requisite amount of power, which is a bargain £700 for 2000bhp
1 RR Pegasus from a harrier. It makes over 20,000 lbs of thrust, and I think around 23000 bhp (But it gets a bit complex with jet engine... See here for a full explanation: juha.net/blogpost/07-2013/how-much-horsepower-does-jet-engine-have)

They all serve different purposes! A trip to Travis Perkins in the Estate is doable. In the Saloon it's not. Same trip in the winter, when there's snow about? Same deal. Convertible? To get the wind in my ever thinning hair.
Don't like the M6 convertible, for starters. Just doesn't float by boat. CSL? Are they not all SMG'd? Again, no thanks.
The vast majority have posted up some great ideas, and I appreciate your input, however it's just for fun and it may just happen. Especially if the current buyers of my pad cough up :-)
PS - I'd never buy a 360, or any modern Ferrari. Let alone be seen in one.
