hardly used my bike this last year (and was quite a good year for bikes) mostly because my self preservation instinct kicked in when my wife got pregnant.
now Dominic is 8 months and i really don't have that urge to get on the bike and go for a ride. would rather get in a car and go somewhere with him and my wife.
i know the rx8 is not the most reliable car or fuel efficient but it would be only a weekend and just in case my other unreliable car (p38) decides to not work some day.
shall i do it?
for reference my bike is a vf750c from 1996 and if someone thinks about what if i feel like to go out for a ride someday i have a gsxr 1100 in the garage i can use at any time.

Can't ride them both and you already seem to know what you want to do...

Just go for it.

It's cheaper to run a bike, but you can't carry much...

Also, you aren't fully in the biker club until you eventually come off it (badly). Any biker will tell you this.

Do you want to sell your bike to buy an RX8?

If yes - sell bike, buy car,
If no - leave the status quo.

It sounds to me like you don't want a bike because you are a father. Therefore it seems you should get the car.

now on ebay. just have to wait to see how much i get for it.
quite excited really about the idea of a rx8.fuel consumption shouldn't be much different from a 2.5 diesel p38.

OP look up hot starting issues with these, this is a car that can be brilliant, or a nightmare, do some research.

Having read around - RX8s are oil hungry, but so long as you keep on top of it, reliable enough. Its the neglectful so n so's who suffer.

I am considering one as an inexpensive hillclimb/sprint car

I would say go for the RX8 but I am biased, get over to http://www.rx8ownersclub.co.uk/ as there is loads of advice and buying guides. Coil packs need to either be uprated or changed every 30,000 miles (with genuine Mazda parts) HT leads should also be upgraded, most problems seem to stem from this not being done. Mine does not use much oil and you only need semi-synthetic or mineral based oils that are cheap. 192 does not rev as high but has more torque. try to buy with compression test or buy a cheap one and budget a rebuild.

My RX8 is indeed a bike substitute. If you are not concerned with fuel consumption they are a lot of fun. The way the engine delivers it’s power is very similar to a four cylinder Jap bike, they love to rev to the limit. Just keep in mind that an engine rebuild could be on the cards at some point.

Shame you're ditching the bike but the RX8 is a fantastic car - one of the best handling I've driven and an amazing engine. Enjoy.

that may be so, but does it wheelie and have you got your knee down on it yet wobble
