Totally different car, but my Ford Puma only ran at about 1/8th temperature (1/4 of the way to the "normal" mark.) I had the theromstat changed. Didn't fix it. Garage told me it was the heater control valve - utter BS as how can the internal heating system have that much of an effect on the engine temp. The HCV was broken though as no hot air inside, so I changed it anyway - obviouslty didn't fix it.

I ran it like this for nearly 3 years with no issues.

It's a poorly designed engine if it does take 2.5 hours to change - prob will cure the fault though - worth doing as cars with faulty thermostats use more fuel

I just checked Autodata and it reckons 2.10 so I would estimate between 2-3 hours.

Also bore-wash; extra fuel washing the oil off the bores reducing the lubrication (increased engine wear) and possible diluting of the oil in the sump
