Over a thousand Car Traders Ebay accounts hacked

[XM5ER]

You may have noticed a number of really cheap cars on PH lately and thankfully PH deal with these scams quickly when reported (I've reported two in the last week). However, ebay is awash with these. Usually its just a one off with an unlikely price that has no number to ring so you have to get in touch via email, but this week I noticed a new trend; complete dealerships of fake cars. One of them left enough clues to be able to track down the real dealer who told me that he had been in touch with Ebay who informed him that over 1000 dealer accounts had been hacked last Friday.

So if you know someone looking for a car that is a bit gullible, do warn them. The typical modus operandi is to say that they are moving location and want to shift their old stock quickly, they want to do the deal on ebay, payment through PP and they will deliver the car to you to view for a couple of days but you can send it back if you don't want it. Now I know you'd have to be pretty hard of thinking to get fooled by this but as I have elderly parents who have been victims of sharp selling from so called "legitimate" businesses, I know these guys will fool some people.

So be aware.
