Sent docs off to change plates before Christmas.

Called last month, fukwit on the phone said they received all paperwork.

Called for an update today and another fukwit said they lost one half of the paperwork and I needed to resend the paperwork.

So I have a car on my fking drive which I want to shift and these fukwits don't know their ahole from their elbow.

I have three private plates. I would gladly set fire to all 3 as it has put me off dealing with these cash rich barstewards.

De localising the process has seriously caused more chaos and they need a root and branch overhaul.

fking get with the times and offer a decent fking service to your punters otherwise fk off and dont sell plates.

So another 6-8 weeks probably.....

^^ Ditto!

I thought my local DVLA office was excellent and made things much much easier. They centralized the process and the two times I have even tried to change a plate its been a fking mess.

What I don't get is the need to wait 12 months before you can recover the plate from a stolen vehicle.

I get that initially the vehicle might be driven on the plate. But 12 months?

And to get it back you write them a letter. Not fill in a form. A letter. This has "potential disaster" written all over it.

Oddly, we purchased a new plate, it went on retention, we bought a new car, sent the docs off together and it all came back within two weeks, new V5, MOT and plates transferred.

Don't get me wrong, it is one of the only times the DVLA have done things smoothly..

The Swansea operation have been an absolute shower for ages. Unlike the local offices which were always a pleasure to deal with for as long as I can remember.

Another absolute shower saw fit to dismantle those offices and save a few quid for the Nation at great expense. rolleyes

Talking of absolute showers. This geezer is actually smoking in a petrol station. What a shower .. biggrin

Here's the same geezer exchanging verbals my other all time favourite actor. Sellers and Thomas at their rascally best. What a shower ... wink

Always brings a smile ... Now dear reader, withdraw and consult .. smile

Three personal plates in the family. May go for a fourth.

So if your car gets nicked and it has a private plate on it you have to wait a year before you can put that plate on another car?

I've found they are better since the local offices closed. They used to take three to four weeks but the last couple of changes I've done I've had them back in less than 10 days.

I think this is just back luck OP, do you even have copies of the bits they have lost?

And the fact I change cars often so swapping over the plates every time is a ballache.

No they don't.

Never had a problem with a plate transfer, personally own four and do dozens a year for work.

One of the next overhauls of the online system will allow dealers to do transfers.

Just be thankful they haven't tried to save more money and outsource it to India

Funnily enough, I recently had an email from DVLA asking if I could help take part in testing a new section of the site to allow you to transfer plates online yourself.
If anyone fancies a go the link is still live.

Good afternoon,

Thank you for submitting your contact details and agreeing to take part in future DVLA customer research.

We are currently working on a prototype for the Assign Cherished Number Plate service. Please click on the following link:

https://pr.preview-dvla.co.uk/assign/before-you-st...

This version is not linked to a live system, so will not recognise live data. Below is a list of various scenarios and the data you will need to progress through them. Please try as many as possible.

When asked for the latest V5C doc number, please enter 11111111111 (11 x 1) for all scenarios.

This service will allow customers who own a cherished number to assign it their vehicle themselves online, and is intended to improve the current process and the time taken to complete it. It will also allow a number to be assigned even if it has unpaid retention fees, as long as these fees are paid first. There are various scenarios around this included in the dummy data.

Please test the prototype for yourself, and towards the end of the week we will follow this email up with a questionnaire which will gather feedback on your experience, and any comments you would like to make.

Your participation is much appreciated.

Thank you

Oh I don't know, not exactly like the service can get any worse.
