So yesterday I was out in a works Berlingo, running a couple of errands and rather enjoying the view of a lovely white 993 Targa in front of me on the A4. Said Porsche then pulls into a petrol station and I thought I'd also pull in, seeing as I needed some diseasel anyway and fancied a closer look at the car.

So I complimented the guy on his motor (yes, I'm that guy who talks to people with nice cars in petrol stations. I can feel the hate already) a youngish chap no more than thirty I'd say with a huge grin on his face, and he responded by saying "thanks, I just bought it, it's been in an accident and not repaired properly, it's f####d, look at the front end."

So off he went to pay for his go-juice and I had a closer look. And yes... I'm no panel beater but I could definitely make out the wonky bumper and bonnet, slightly lopsided n/s light, and paint bubbles everywhere.
When he got back he just shrugged and said "I don't care if it was crashed. It's a Porsche, it was cheap, and I love it."

And as he roared off with that wonderful air-cooled boxer rumble ringing in my ears I couldn't help but think fair play to the guy. He's got a motor he really wanted and buying and driving around in that somewhat ruined car must surely have taken a rather large pair of testicles.

Now that is a proper petrolhead in my opinion, and before anyone says anything, no I don't know how cheap 'cheap' was, didn't seem right to ask...

Nice wee anecdote smile

Hope it works out for the guy!

He's certainly got bigger balls than me. I've just walked away from a nice Clio 172 Cup because of stories of bits constantly breaking - I dread to think what I'd be like with a badly repaired 911!
