I'm just curious, lets say for example you win a cool 10mil on the Lottery, and now your bank account is looking beautiful.

You decided to head down to the local Nissan Dealership and buy the car of your dreams....

Its £125k, so how exactly do you pay for it?
Do you go to the Bank first and tell them there is going to be a massive transfer on your debit card?
Do you and the salesman take a trip to the bank and do a transfer?

Just log in from home and do a bank transfer.

It's not hard.

Withdraw the money from the bank in £5 notes.

Buy a jet engine.

Start the jet engine just inside the door of the dealership

Chuck all the £5 notes behind the jet engine.

Watch the salesmen dance around like they're on the crystal maze.

The most I've ever done was 42K on a car purchase, with a dealer who had card facilities.
Just rang the bank to warn them, regular security questions and it went through. That was 8 years ago, so maybe security has changed now.

Once tried a credit card for the entire amount, but they would not bite. The points would have been nice.

Normally, if its a dealer I know I just give them a personal cheque. If its a place where I have no relationship I just give them a bank draft.

Slightly off topic but is it possible to spend £125K on a Nissan?

Probably looking a bit too closely at the specifics of what you've asked, but if you've won £10m, you're not keeping it in your run of the mill Abbey National Current Account, it'll be with one of the specialist places, like Coutts.
These accounts don't so much as bat an eye at sums of £125k. In fact, what'd probably cause most consternation is not the amount, but the fact that it was going to the local Datsun dealer.

Simon.

GT-R Nismo with a Titanium exhaust is £131,800 OTR without any discount.

Millions in the back - prety sure a Nissan wouldnt be my dream car - each to his own.

You pay by bank debit card, have done it for purchases up to £50k, just let the bank know

I think you just say 'I'd like one of those, Smithers' and continue your devilishly witting banter with the new reception girl, whilst staff make it so.

Jeez, talk about trying to over complicate things.

Last time I rang the bank to inform them of a large transfer they told me they couldn't do anything with that info.

I may need a new bank.

Informing your bank of your intention to make a large purchase on your debit card doesn't always make a difference, sometimes the dealership's bank/card machine provider will still want to run a few checks.

Write out a cheque, present it and then collect the car once the funds have cleared.....never had a problem here. Or do an electronic fund transfer. Simple.

I'm sure some of their group C cars command a decent premium these days...
