Currently got a mk2 MX5 but I need something a bit bigger now

I'm looking around and nothing is inspiring me

Budget is about £2000-£3000

I did think about an E46 325 BMW. but I've been hearing about suspension problems and brakes eating discs and calipers seizing. I don't want something that I'm going to be throwing money at every month because I haven't got the spare cash

Any suggestions? I want something that's a nice drive, not a boring box, and I was hoping for rwd, but any ideas welcome

If you insist on RWD you limit yourself to BMW or a few jap coupes.

Get a BMW, I'd say one of the biggest problems for car manufactures is people on forums, people always come on here moaning or asking how to fix something.

How often does someone start a topic to say my 10 year old car just hit 100k and all I've done is service it.

Yes the E46 does have a few potential issues but replacing discs an pads is NOT one that is a deal breaker, if you can find one that has evidence of maintenance like suspension bushes, axle bushes, diff bushes done and a solid boot floor then you should be onto a winner as every other item that MAY need replacing would be no different to any other car of similar age.

GSF, Euro Car Parts for example can save you a bugger load on parts and if you are handy with the spanners you ought to be fine.

EDIt to suggest a E46 325TI compact, bit lighter, lower gearing and quicker steering rack than saloon/coupe models.

If you're not stuck on RWD then look at Clio 1*2's, you'd get a decent one for your budget & they are great fun to drive, cheap to run & practical.
