Apologies Boris; normally I wouldn't say 'oi' but I ran out of characters.
I've just spent a day or so on public transport in London.
I've seen public transport in other places, and this is the key.
Why are the bus stops in London approximately 100m apart?
They are not that close together anywhere else in the world.
1) Get rid of every 'other' bus stop, and the acceleration/braking will be halved for every bus, the traffic flow will be increased by 100%, and everybody wins.
2) also you could halve the number of pedestrian crossings, as again they are every 100m
3) reduce the amount of time that pedestrians get at every junction crossing at traffic lights
Also you could get someone who understands traffic flow to reset all of the traffic light timings, because at the moment they are all wrong, and wrong in isolation from each other..... but that would be more difficult than the 3 points above, though of course it shouldn't be.
