Offered me £5,510 for my Car which considering I paid £6,400 private 4 months and 8k miles ago seems a pretty decent price for a trade-in.

HPI Valuation says this

Private Sale (Excellent) £7,025
Trade - In £6,047

Maybe I got the car cheap?

£2,040 for my Ford Focus -

By comparison I've been offered around £2,500 trade in by various garages against another car, and WBAC offered £2,000

Everyone thinks that their car is worth more than it actually is - in the same way that we think our houses are worth more than they actually are. This is a basic human trait, and comes under the heading "greed".
If you just want to sell your car, it is obvious that you DO YOUR RESEARCH and go after the best offer. If, on the other hand you need to PX your car for another, there are a whole load of other criteria to take into account. The dealer does not make any profit at all until he has disposed of your PX. He may have to take a loss on it if he sells it back into the trade - for whatever reason. By law the dealer HAS to provide some sort of warranty, and, if he is a conscientious dealer, will want you to return on a later date to purchase again.
People wrongly believe that just because they see a car on a front the same as theirs for, say, £7995, then their car must be worth a similar amount - no it ain't. It is worth what it is worth IN THE TRADE, and the dealer starts off any transaction from that basic price.
Selling cars can be a very pleasing experience, until you come up against the dimbos with cloud-cuckoo ideas about the value of their car. Sadly they ARE out there - in great numbers......... and they drive genuine and honest car dealers round the twist.

You didn't start this one with "Sir". Dissapointing!

mine comes in at 500 more than WBAC (£2500 for a 55 plate s-type diesel) which doesn't seem to be too unreasonable.

The idea of having to deliver it to them half way across the country would put me off though...

Is this thread an advert for a new Mike Brewer website?

My valuation came back at £18k for a 9-month old VW Golf GTD with 6000 miles on it, so with the options my car has, nearly £10k off.

And I thought these VWs held their value!

Can you add all the options onto this sort of website?

To be honest does not sound a terrible price as with discount you probably paid nearer £25k?

Buy at £18k and probably advertise it up at around £21k?

I would guess private you would get around £19.5k but this sort of website is for people who need money quick or don't want the hassle of selling the car the price I got offered was about £300 more than webuyanycar so seemed decent enough if want shot of it quickly!

Luckily it is not mine to sell - I'm leasing it at a total cost of £7098 over 24 months.

Sounds like a decent deal then suspect at 2 years old would probably get £17k for private sale so with dealer discount be looking more of an £8.5 - 9k loss if purchased directly plus no hassle of selling!

Suppose lease car will go back into the dealer network and the advantage of selling from a dealer will make up the difference in cost... Nobody must buy a new VW outright nowadays ha

Valued my ST-3 at £4,730

Last week a dealer nearby I was chatting to offered me £6,200

5 previous owners hurts the value on these online calculators.

Values my Megane at £4290, just tried wbac and they value it at £5250. So only ~%20 out.

I hate that older Focus STs are worth more than my Renault (damn their crap image) frown

I was looking at one yesterday which was 6 months old with quite a few options and 8000 miles. VW dealer wanted £25,990 for it, so I think £18k for that one is slightly low! They seem quite sought after cars at the moment as was quoted 4 months for a factory order. I'd be surprised if you couldn't achieve £20k upwards for it.

That surprises me when get a brand new GTD DSG for approx £24k down from a list of £27,500 so allows for £2k of options just to match the price of a 8,000 mile example.

This one looks nice for £22.5k http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/2014...

Agree £18k may be a bit harsh surprised at values on the used market may as well get a new one they are that similar in price!
