Ok you might want to shoot me for another what car thread but need to come up with more ideas. I got a 335i about 6 months ago and I love the looks, interior, pace and general feel good factor. However I borrowed a mini S works the other day and had such a laugh driving about - it really brought into focus how dead the steering feels on the BMW.

So I'm looking for something for less than 9K that is a joy to drive. I'm really interested in the how it feels - I used to have an elise many many years ago and loved it, but sold it as it was just too impractical. I'm tempted again (as we have a family car) however the car needs to be least have a slight nod to practicality as there are times when the family car is away.

I don;t want French/Italian as I want it reasonably reliable (like everyone) but if not, at least parts to be reasonable (not like BMW, Merc ,etc).

I'm not really sold on the looks of the Mini (just too toy car for me), but loved the way it drove.

Ideas?

911 - way too expensive running costs (and to buy a decent one). Would love one (again) mind.

Edited to say: maaaybe the clio

Possibly too capable to enjoy? Effective but not rewarding. Mini a great shout.
