My mum owns a Honda Jazz that she bought new in 2006. Up until recently every letter/email has gone to her regarding the car. Then from about October/early November I started getting emails from Honda asking me to try their new whatever and offering finance deals on various cars, didn't really think much of it really, surely just usual spam. Had a few more appear and then I started getting letters from them too. Then I got a phone call from them yesterday saying that 'my' car is due for a service soon.

Now I explained everything to the woman on the phone that it's not my car and never has been and they hopefully rectify all the details. Now after my ramblings my main question is how can a main dealer get all my info in the first place, let alone replace my mothers with it? It's not like they got the Mr/Mrs and first initial mixed up, they were addressing me with my first name and somehow have my email which only for work, the only car related account on it is an independent garage that I've used for a couple of years since I've owned my own car which is not a Honda!

Anyone else had similar issues with main dealer mix ups?

The nice guys at a Fiat dealership did a credit check on Mrs Troubleatmill - and then posted out an offer to her on a new Fiat.

Yes - We sourced a Fiat from them about 4 years previous. But had no dealings with them since.

I went ballistic. They have no right to conduct credit checks on you.

The salesman who did this, and the dealer principle couldn't see the problem. Fiat HQ thankfully took a dim view of their actions.

Because everyone you give your details to, sells it on to someone else.

Very true. I just found it bad form that the Main dealer for a company I have never dealt with, who has bought my info off a third party would switch it for my mothers on a car that's hers.

I've a series of 'fake' emails I use when siging up to things I do want my proper e-mail to be used for. Then every few months, I close those accounts down.
