Shopping a tax dodger
Discussion
My douchebag next door neighbour has taken to parking his sh###y old van outside my house (I am aware that he has just as much right to do this as me), but last night I noticed that the tax disc in the windscreen said December 2014 on it. Out of curiosity I did a DVLA vehicle check and sure enough it isn't taxed - this morning I reported it via the DVLA website. Does anyone know how long they take to investigate reports of untaxed vehicles?

You're more of a douchebag than him.
Neighbour doesn't tax car and is reported and you think the person reporting is the douchebag? So if it was replaced with uninsured driver and the driver hits your family car and you can't claim repairs, etc as they have no money, you have to stump up the money yourself (as in claiming on your insurance), you still think the OP a douchebag?

Carry on checking. My disc is ancient albeit car taxed to the hilt.TX.

If you think that this is what happens, then you're a very silly man.So if it was replaced with uninsured driver and the driver hits your family car and you can't claim repairs, etc as they have no money, you have to stump up the money yourself (as in claiming on your insurance), you still think the OP a douchebag?
Last year or the year before I reported someone for a lack of tax.
They had taken to parking their Clio directly across the path from my front door, there were more sensible places to park (5 feet along the road for example) but presumably the fatty fat driver didn't want to lose and of the precious lb's thatnthey had been collecting!
Anyway, it meant we couldn't get the pram off the garden without walking over the muddy garden and the neighbour over the road had a struggle getting their car off the drive (new estate, foot way one side of the road and my path leads directly onto road) and as I noticed they weren't taxed I reported them.
An inspector came to see said car about 5 weeks later. Needless to say it only parked there for a few weeks so nothing came of it. But I felt better anyway.
I wouldn't have reported it if they hadn't parked like a d
head, but even though I did I can't imagine anything has changed with the world.

They must have decided it wasn't an easy job so he chose to park it 4 doors down outside my house. No doubt he didn't want it outside his place f

What's the problem OP, that he is cheating his tax or that he is parking where you dont approve (albeit by your description in a place he is perfectly allowed to)? If the former, then why the hell do you care?? If the later, then most honest people would simply tell the offender offender. If that's too stressful for you, then perhaps a note on their windshield??

Depends on how many people they have avalable in your area and what other work they have to do. The local council will probably be the people doing the investigation and enforcement. Where I used to live they had one person who worked 3 days a week, mostly investigating VED fraud, which is no longer a problem, or going out doing ANPR stops with the police. He had a relitivly small area to cover though.mannyg said:

The rest of us pay it, so why shouldn't he? Part of living in a civil society is we pay our taxes and don't suffer those who brake the law. There are many reasons why sink estates happen, one of those is a "don't grass" attitude and too many people round here have that. The world would be a better place if people stopped that.Edited by SteveSteveson on Thursday 12th February 07:41

I'm sure you don't really do this. However, for those who read your post and thought it a good idea, don't. Dog s

t can contain some significant nasties and handling it can lead to permanent and debilitating side effects, such as blindness. Knowing how kids play, for example my toddler sometimes grabs door handles, it also might mean you harm someone entirely innocent.Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
