Getting (got) old and struggling with car choice
Discussion
I'm now officially old and nearer 50 than 40 (just), but need a new car. The reasons are well documented in the M Power section around why. I think it's time to grow up, of sorts. I've owned a load of sporty cars, 911s, Ms, RSs etc and now really don't see the value in £500 VED bills and £800+ insurance premiums.
I'm after something vaguely sensible. I first looked at the Lexus hybrids, but the blooming electric and petrol don't work together, so that's too dull and too cheap. The RC model looks good, but it'd be cheaper using £50 notes to light my cigarettes than buy one.
My description of sensible would be reasonably quick, certainly enough to see off 80% of the other cars on the road, hopefully a bit quirky and budget to £90,000. I want at least 4 seats for transporting my nieces around, but no kids of mine to worry about any more. I want comfy, but with some oomph when I want to have a play. As much as I hate to say it the BMW 640 / 650 or 435i ticks the boxes but I'm not buying BMW again and dislike Merc and Audi intensely too, so they're out.
I get my kicks, racing, tracking and road riding bikes, so there's very little carwise that has the wow factor they used to have when I was in my early 20s from a power perspective
Any ideas welcome and I usually take the Michael about these sort of threads in Biker Banter and they usually fill up with people recommending Triumph 675s. Please God, no MX-5s or chipped 335ds
So come on surprise and inspire me.

Maserati GrandTourismo

Range Rover Supercharged thing
(I'm in the same boat. Kinda bored of sports cars so got a C63 which I'm loving but you mentioned a dislike of Mercs)
Interesting. Had a heated debate about 4x4s amd I just don't get them, I'm sure they're nice for some bit not me. The Maserati is soooooooooo nice, ditto the Aston. Just can't do Mercs. Aston Martin DB9
Range Rover Supercharged thing

What's the problem with £500 VED in relation to a 90K budget?
It's been done to death before but when you are spending that sort of cash £500 a year isn't a big deal.
Yep, I'm struggling to think how you'd spend £90k and not end up with £500 VED. It's been done to death before but when you are spending that sort of cash £500 a year isn't a big deal.

I'm in a similar place..
Tesla? You'll not find anything quicker if you can manage the range anxiety
Panamera diesel? New one has 300 bhp
Maserati quartoporte diesel (I didn't spot if you were anti diesel).
Jags are all getting on now (ruling out f type), XF are a bit common, xj would be a bit unusual however but would age you quickly
For space and not run of the mill in their brand I'm also thinking merc cls shooting brake and audi S7, depends how hard your anti merc/Audi thing is.
