Family car £10k. fun...spacious...some looks
Discussion
hello,
so me and the other half welcomed a new baby over the weekend so the time has come to actually knuckle down and look for a bigger car.
at present we have a 1 series. so think something bigger for us is needed.
ideally i'd want an estate due to the space they offer in the rear, and the belief that I like the look of estates.
I'm in 2 minds as to wether to get a diesel barge for my commute to work and then get a reasonably speedy estate for karting family round.
now if i go this route the car would need to be handy to park for the mrs (so sensors would be needed)
here's what I'm after, something less than £10k. cruise control. reasonably fast. spacious. parking sensors.
here's what I've thought of, any suggestions, opinions would be great. i'd be happy to go for high mileage cars, like 90k on clock.
e90 320d m sport
e46 320 sport
last gen Ford Mondeo titanium x estate (sport one)
first gen X5?
volvo v50 r design
alfa 159 estate (if they were reliable)
mercedes c/e class estate
bmw 5 series
skoda octavia vrs (love them in blue)
audi a4 avant b7 s line ( a b8 s line would be nice, but they're out of price range)
if i go for cheap diesel am i better getting the faster petrol variants of the above models?
should there be any cars i look for? any opinions?
any help will be great...and hope any recommendations please the wife?

I think I also prefer the interiors on the bmw's.
I have thought about the Mazda 6. Do look stylish. With sport kit.
The alfa 159 ti would be a joy. But just done how practical it can be. Seen on parkers that boot space isn't too big. Was looking at the JDTM models. They are cheap? But is there a reason behind that???
Could I see some decent mpg on an alpina?
The cayenne could be an outside bet. Would have to be high milage ones.
Would I be better going for something with LPG on something like that? How easy was it to park?

With the sensors the Cayenne's fine to park. Mine was on 78,0000 when I sold it. A brilliant old beast, though admittedly not cheap to run,I have thought about the Mazda 6. Do look stylish. With sport kit.

Your thread title suggests you want something fun, yet there's nothing particularly fun on your list.
How many miles do you do a year and what would you find to be an acceptable mpg?
surely the 3 would be an engaging drive? How many miles do you do a year and what would you find to be an acceptable mpg?
what could you recommend?
i do 80 miles a day 5 times a week. acceptable would be around mid 40's mpg
