Temporary Insurance for test drivie

This weekend I am going to view and test drive 3 cars (2 dealers and a private sale).
This will be my first car in UK and so I do not have car insurance at this point. The private guy told me that if I want to test drive the car he will want me to bring my insurance.
Is the same with dealers? Can they refuse a test drive if I do not have an insurance? Should I buy a temporary 2 day insurance just for test driving these cars?

Dealers will be fine. Just passenger in the private.
