Under bonnet charging point on an MX5

Hi all

I have a MK2 1.8iS as a toy. As a consequence it doesn't get used that often, so I have got a CTEK charger to keep it topped up, with a comfort connector direct on the battery.

As of this week (fitted coilovers) I can no longer reverse into the garage due to the car grounding out at the top of my fairly steep drive.

So, rather than the pain of running an extension around the place and having the cable perfectly placed to trip over, I'm thinking I might fit a second comfort connector in/ around the bumper somewhere.

Question is, with the battery being in the boot, where can I tap into on the car that has heavy duty enough wiring that is permanent live to connect the comfort connector?

Starter motor will have a bloody big cable to it, not that you really need anything massive for trickle charging.

My lighter socket is a permanent live so I plug my CTEK in there.

If yours goes off with the ignition, it shouldn't be too hard to run a single cable with an inline fuse at the battery end from the boot, engine bay to the front whelarch, behind the bumper, etc and then put the CTEK connector on the end of the new cable with a convenient earth there?
