I know it's hard to predict.

I am going to be possibly looking at selling my Caterham 7 this year for something equally as quick with a bit more practicality.

I am into my lightweight sport cars hence owning a caterham and previously owning a VX220.

So what cars are likely to possibly appreciate in say 5-10 years.

I am looking at

TVR T350
TVR Tuscan
Lotus Exige s1/s2
Noble m12

The cars above prices seem to be holding steady or slowly rising.

So what do you guys think. What car is a good punt, what will possibly gain in value over the years. Any make or model.

I'm looking at the 10-25k Mark so let's try and keep it within that.

A brand new top end Citroen C5 petrol auto bought retail at full list, but only if you keep the miles up.

As new a Tuscan or T350 as possible would be my choice.
My Tuscan is worth at least 10k more than I paid for it in 2009.

I think they are all good bets as long as the current bubble lasts.

Will this bubble last 10 years?

I'd put my money on a low mileage S1 Exige out of that lot.

Are you likely to really make any significant money on any car in this price range when you account for servicing, tax, insurance etc costs?

My pick will be a S1 Elise Sport 160 - they will soon be shooting up in value. You will be a millionaire I tell you biggrin

Always a problem putting your car in your user name!

I too have owned a VX220 and am currently on my 4th Caterfield...(a bright orange Westy currently the Ph classifieds) and I too am looking at something a bit more practical. I'm looking at Chimaeras. There's a LOT of homework to be done to get a decent one more my measley budget of £9k but I'm pretty sure That if I look around I can get a solid car. I also think they will start appreciating in the near future. Good luck with your search.

Whenever you see the words "car" and "investment" in the same sentence you should recognise that the Bullhsit Alert sirens are sounding.

Two main reasons,

1. Almost no cars ever increase in value once you adjust prices for inflation.

2. Almost every car which does appreciate in real value will have savage maintenance costs, require storage in a heated garage and you'll be too scared to take it out in case it gets damaged.

Cars cost money. Spend and enjoy!
