What car for upto £15k?
Discussion
Hi,
I wanted to tap into the wisdom that is PH, so sorry for the what car post - but I am totally struggling to make a decision on what I should be spending £15k on.
I do appx 6000 miles per year, and I want to get something with a good ride quality, refined / comfortable with some prestige. Have come close to a used 520d SE (2012) manual from BMW AUC as it seems good value for money (with heated seats, etc). Part of me is thinking this is the wrong choice for me and I should be getting something a bit more sportier and fun to drive (E Class coupe if in my budget - but I dont like Automatics). GT86 is still a pricey used buy at £16k+
Something relatively new (like a new shape 3 series) is coming up to 13 - 14k for a 316d / 320d, so a 5 series made sense?
Older V6 330i E90 or 325i hard to find and on high miles - seems like a potential money pit.
Any suggestions? Nothing too old or expensive to run. Will look to sell in 2 years / 12,000 miles time. Min 30 - 40 mpg combined. Thanks.
What about the Honda CRZ: http://www.marshallweb.co.uk/honda/used-cars/59889...
Are these good to drive - seem quite cheap? but no leather seats...

You need to narrow it down.
First you say you want something good to drive with a bit of prestige for 15k and mention a 520d, then an E-class coupe, then a GT86, then you link to a nine grand Honda hybrid. That's a pretty diverse list.
Basically your shopping list seems to be "any car under £15k that's not done more than (an unspecified number of) miles, reasonably economical, manual, leather seats, bit of prestige (but Honda and Toyota are OK)"
At the moment you don't need suggestions, you need a mind reader

I wouldn't even consider a diesel when doing 6000 miles a year.
330i is a inline 6 (not a V6 as in your OP), and is likely to be less of a moneypit than a modern diesel as there is far less to go wrong (not to mention that it will sound better and drive nicer). Will easily get a good one for £15k and it does over 30mpg combined.
Leftfield choice - how about a Peugeot RCZ? Alfa Romeo Brera looks great as well but not so good to drive.
