Difference in running costs between MX-5 NC and Z4?

I am looking for a car to buy as my first car, so I have no experience with car ownage. Two cars that I consider are the Mazda MX-5 NC and BMW Z4. The NC is at the top of my list due to the lower running costs (I think it's cheaper to run that the Z4, but correct me if I am wrong). As I said, I never owned a car, so have no view on running costs.
What would be a good indication of the difference in running costs btween the two cars per month or year?
