I'm currently looking for a new daily driver and i would like a hatchback for the practicality. I'm looking at cars under about 4 years old. I don't have a strict budget but needs to be reasonable and I also prefer German cars but i will consider others. What do you suggest?
Thanks,
James

What is it about the Germans that you like the most?

Well worth looking at a Volvo V40 as well as the Golf, A3, 1 Series and A Class. Leon is worth a look too

Thanks, I forgot to add that it needs to be comfortable on the motorway. What about the VW polo or is it too small?

I automatically thought Golf size when you said hatchback. The Polo along with the A1 are about as refined as small hatch backs get and are perfect on longer journeys if you don't have to much to transport about, especially if you get one with a decent engine

No i don't have much to transport, Do you know how much the polo and golf would differ in ride comfort?
Thanks a lot

Other than the sport they are a bit rough and ready compared to Polo and A1

I'm not really a fan of the design to be honest but thanks for the suggestion.

Golf will be better. The new MQB platform is very good for ride and handling. The Polo is good but has a shorter wheelbase so the ride is likely to be not quite so good. A lot of it comes down to wheel and tyre size

MK7 VW Golf 1.4 TSI - the combination of strong punch, amazing refinement, quality build, thoughtful ergonomics, lovely interior and frugality are unmatched in this class.

How about a Leon it's a V.A.G car will have depreciated more than the Golf you should be able to get one for Polo money & normally they're higher spec'd so it'd be a win win.

Volvo V40 would be top of my list I think - really love the shape and styling and there's plenty of choice of both Petrol and Diesel variants.

So do you think a hatchback like a Golf or Leon would be a good combination with a weekend/fun car like an mx5? I might upgrade to a Cayman in the future. I would go for a 3 series saloon but there not practical enough and i don't really want an estate.
Thanks
