Hi i Sold my car last June brought another one changed my insurance over and sent the log book off and the dvla said they didn't receive it and I'm being done for no insurance on the car thats I sold and now I've got to go to court on the 6th of narch even though I don't have the car what do I do and also they said if I pay the £100 they will let it go...I've pleaded not guilty last month as the court was to far to go.

Any chance you could contact the new keeper and find out if/when they got the new V5 ?

(not that you need to - it's up to DVLA to prove that you didn't inform them, not for you to prove that you did.)

Tryed that he said he only had the car hrs. And then he blocked me on Facebook. So stressed about this even got proof of changing my insurance and they said I've been driving my old car for 9 months with no insurance I haven't had in in 11 months

Have you checked https://www.vehicleenquiry.service.gov.uk/ and askmid to see when it was last taxed and whether it's currently insured ? They won't give you detail, but could give an indication that someone has taken responsibility for it.

Sounds like he has been driving it with no insurance smile

You sent off the forms and you can show that you sold the car and arranged insurance for a new car. Seems reasonable that this is true. DVLA have a reputation for losing documents all the time. They need to prove you didn't post it, would be nice if you had proof of postage but sounds OTT.

Maintain your stance that you did everything properly. Paying the charge is an admission of guilt.

You don't have to be driving it to be guilty, so this is a misquote. If you are the Registered Keeper then you are responsible under Continuous Insurance Enforcement. You have to persuade the DVLA / court that you weren't the RK, not that you weren't driving the car. If the new owner is not playing ball then you can only present your evidence.

DVLA are a mess for documents these days

Had this on a write off last year logbook forwarded to insurance co who dealt with everything

9 months later threatening letters from the DVLA of court action

Phone call to insurance who confirmed v5 was sent off and they get 4/5 of these a week even though docs are sent registered post

My husband is going to write them another letter the dvla was so rude to me when I called today saying it is my fault and anyone can prove a receipt but when I spoke to my insurance they said u changed the insurance over to your new car so surely that would be proof you sold the car. They also said that the dvla are in a right mess atm
