My M3 has to go as I am renovating a house and was wondering what alternatives there are apart from an RS4?????

Subaru legacy 3.0 spec B ? ,

Bought one as my winter hack. Looked at rs4, rs6 but just couldn't justify the money for it be left in car parks and for it to live down a farm track !!!

Currently loving it !!

B6 S4 gets touted as a fairly popular answer. Legacy Spec B is another that crops up. C5 RS6 / B5 RS4 perhaps?

Any other criteria?

Edit: Beaten to it...

Other criterea, not after a massive car as it is in central London, so A4 ish size is about the limit, and not too concerned about petrol as I do about 6k a year Max!

You don't have many options unless you want to be deliberately obtuse and buy something a bit st just to be different. With the size limit you've specified a 335i touring seems a no brainer to me.

335i. At least you'll get mid 20s in London.

A B6 S4 however will be sub 15mpg from what I've read.

I went from a legacy spec b to a C55 AMG estate. No real negatives bar the fuel. Slush box suits the torquey delivery and city driving. It's a fast car with a lovely sound track and on budget. I looked at 335s S4s and E55s but C55 was the right size with less potential for big bills than the E class.

Thanks for the replies, the other option would be an impreza wagon if I could deal with a slightly smaller boot!

Certainly, if it's a manual it will be sub 15. And more than a little bit st to drive. The auto is a little more economical (maybe 1 - 2mpg) and much, much more suited to the car

Very good condition low mileage Forrester STI SG9s can be had for that sort of money.

I ran a couple of C43's in London and they were great. A C55 would be even better.

Spec B was 18mpg iirc and the merc is at 16.5 mpg. Start/stop driving with a little dual carriageway blast a day plus I blip it under the bridge to have a listen smile.

The scooby sounded quite good as well.
