Might need a few more criteria here like:

Big and safe or small and cute - the car, not her.
Miles per year roughly
Manual or auto
Does she like red?

Help us out a little.

Would you consider a new car paid for each month? My girlfriend bought herself a VW Up! on a PCP for £500 down and £149 per month with first year free insurance and 3 years free servicing. Has heated seats, sat nav, Bluetooth, DAB radio. It is a fantastic little car: it's a right giggle to drive; has sufficient poke; does many miles to the gallon and feels massive inside. I would highly recommend one.

My girlfriends first car was a Suzuki Swift, 1.5 petrol, for around that budget (bought for £3600 IIRC), great little car, reliable and reasonably well built, cheap to run and not a bad steer.

She liked the Swift so much she bought a Swift Sport after just less than a year - also a great motor, as an aside.

You should be able to pick up a youngish c1 or aygo etc for that money, and insurance on those shouldn't be too bad. 1.0l petrol?
