Do you choose the insurance web sites you visit based on whether or not you get a free fluffy toy?

what age is the average buyer of insurance?

The last 4 insurance policies I have taken out have gained me a soft toy. They always get me the cheapest quote and my Daughter loves the Meerkats.

Given that confused.com is giving away robot toys now I suspect it does sway allot of people.

I suspect it's the "daddy/mummy, I want that" effect. If your three year-old is demanding a stupid meerkat toy then you'll probably at least get a quote through them.

Given that they're probably made for 2p in a sweatshop in China, they wont need many extra sales from it to recoup their costs.

I think they used to go for a fair bit on ebay too, though its blocked at work so I cant back that theory up right now.

Insurance is a really dull subject that is (pretty much) a mandatory part of owning a house and driving a car, can cost a fair chunk of money and it only becomes useful after some sort of stressful or unwelcome event; normally the only tangible thing you get from the hundreds or more pounds you've just shelled out is a wadge of documents full of boring legalese. It's a nice touch to actually receive something a bit fun from the whole process, and it obviously works for them.

You are not wrong, people still pay silly money for these. I've had between 30 and 50 quid over the years off ebay / gumtree. It doesn't factor into my decision for the policy purchase but if i can get some cash back on behalf of someone who wants such tat, then they are welcome.

I've done it via them because they often bring back a better quote than confused and other comparisons.

Plus an extra £35 back from selling a toy on ebay is an extra bonus! biggrin

The "parents" of Brian and the Meerkats have both given me identical renewal quotes - some 46% cheaper than my own insurance company's suggestion of a competitive amount. A toy is neither here nor there but could be a potential Ebay windfall.

You seem to underestimate the sheer stupidity of the general public. I do understand that more lucid people on here did genuinely get the cheapest quote from meerkat.com and then passed the toy on, so no offence. You only have to read the knob thread to understand why I'm not surprised people will buy insurance policies just because of this free toy...

Pester power from THREE year olds? I get bloody pestered by SWMBO, who is more than a few decades older than that.

(Five meerkats and counting)

Just about the right age to have a child who wants a soft toy I'd have thought! They're onto a winner so why knock a good idea?

You'd have to be a tool to choose an insurance policy based purely on a soft toy. I have had two meerkats only because CTM gave me the cheapest out of a few websites. When they first came out, CTM was quoting at least £50 above my cheapest quote.
