Well not quite...

My 16 year old 5 series touring was getting a bit rattly and creaking over bumps and sounding a bit sheddy.

So, I white lithium greased all of the door catches and the check straps and silicone sprayed all around the door and window rubbers.

What a difference; it's like a new car!

Once again, I waft everywhere in silence.

Mine sounded like it needed the doors stripping and everything tightening but it was just in need of lubrication.

I urge anyone to give it a try of you are getting body noises over bumpy roads.

Do you all have silent cars with no creaks or squeaks?

I probably have the oldest daily driver on PH; hence the lack of response but I like my classic :-)

Mine remains as silent as it was the first day it drove. I did wonder whether the noises would return but so far so good!

Mine squeaks, creaks, and generally sounds like a sinking ship. But that's more down to a wobbly jellymould body shell (Saab convertible) than door rubbers I reckon... Although saying that, the creaks and squeaks come from somewhere, so maybe a good dunking in silicone would make the whole thing a bit softer!

Worth a try as it takes just a few minutes and costs pennies.

You never know; it could make a world of difference.

It sure has with my e39; I thought the noises were mechanical & trim noises but the lithium and silicone have completely eliminated them.

The only noise I occasionally hear is from my spare wheel, it's the tyre squeaking in the wheel well but I could pad it out to stop that (it has not bolt down flange in the centre to secure it on my car).

My E34 rattles a bit over bumps etc, it does sound like rattling from the doors. Poor thing had a bit of a weekend of it: Long winded bumpy diversion over Dartmoor's tiny roads as the A38 was shut off, driving around poorly maintained tracks around Cornwood, being attacked by a mentalist (yes really). Poor thing needs some TLC, thanks for the tip OP! thumbup

Mine has lots of rattles and squeaks.

1) My sunglasses in the holder.
2) The cigarette lighter in the ashtray.
3) The child seats in the back.
4) The emergency red bull under the arm-rest.

Apart from that er the drivers seat has a creak under big bumps which probably just needs some lube on (or possibly the driver to go on a diet).

Mine is only 7 years old though.
