Hiya folks, at the moment I`ve got a non dating plate on my car, 3 letters and 3 numbers. I got an online valuation and it`s doubled in value since I`ve owned it in the past 10 years. I was thinking of selling it and getting another one to own as an investment for the next few years. The interest rates are piss poor so it looks like a good move.
Anyone else done this and had good returns?

The problem is it's only worth what someone wants to pay for it at the time. It's not worth anything if someone with those initials isn't looking for a plate of about that value at the time you're selling it.

I clicked on this thread as I thought it said "Private planes as an investment", now that's something I can get behind.

I dislike investors, especially in the motoring world. I consider them to be like bankers, greedy types. They put prices up for those of us who like to use our vehicles. People who buy to use and with a hope of an increase in value is perfectly ok by me however.

Speculation is a gamble and can go either way, if you must hope it works out for you.

As with most things in the car world number plates very rarely increase in value once you adjust for inflation.

However one thing is certain - a decent number plate holds its value a lot better than the car it's attached to!!

Afzal Khan (Kahn Desig) has turned down an offer of more than £6 million for his 'F1' registration plate.
Which he bought for less than half a million iirc?

Also bought Scott Alexander's NO 1 number plate not long ago?

I heard a rumour, if the EU get its way, all UK number plates will be abolished for European looking ones. Any truth to this?!
