Recently I'm not using my car as much as I was, and I sometimes find if I don't use it for a couple of weeks the battery can go flat (usually if it has previously only been used for short runs). I know that the battery and alternator are good. I do have a starter pack which has helped me out, but it's kinda bulky and a pain to use.

So, I was looking at this compact unit... does anyone have one? The reviews seem pretty good, but I'd like to hear some PH'ers 1st hand opinions before I go shelling out.

That's not a solution to anything however.

A lead acid battery does not like being fully discharged, you will kill it in short order.

Disconnect the battery if you are not using your car for any length of time, if you have this problem.

You can get small solar panels chargers that sit on your dashboard and plug into the accessory socket. However if it's discharging in 2 weeks it's probably knackered.

I have one of these - it's a nice bit of kit and has helped me out of a number of tight spots.

No, the battery is definitely fine, it's only a few months old, as is the alternator. It's just with it being winter and using the car (a 2.0 diesel) for multiple short runs while using headlights, heater etc, the alternator doesn't really get chance to replace the charge used during start up.

And only some cars 12v sockets remain live with the ignition off.
