Is there a website you can check to see who is winning the new car sales race? I picked up my new c class a month ago and all I see now is 64 reg mercedes, they defiantly seem to be out numbering the BMW & Audi. I think it may be down to the deals they are doing over the actual car. My opinion was there was not much between the mercedes and BMW but the audi did fall short .

I suppose they have to do something to counter-act their universally rubbish dealers.

I would be interested to see AMG vs M vs RS cars. I often see AMG mercs but rarely see an M powered car or RS Audi.

Here's a brief extract from SMMT data (Jan-15), showing only MB, BMW & Audi:

Jan-2015
Audi 11,354
Mercedes-Benz 9,348
BMW 8,008

Unsurprisingly Audi is well in front, however I imagine AMG & M vehicles significantly outsell Audi S & RS products.

On a rather sad note Lotus only registered 13 cars in January. Other notable marques include:

Jaguar 800
Lexus 1,006
Porsche 630

I bet you can take a couple of hundred from those numbers to get the company car stats as well.

Not sure if serious or not?

Tens of thousands will be private PCP's

I see from SMMT that the mercedes c class is the 7th top registered car in January, that may explain why I am seeing so many.

Mercedes has an ambition to double its volume by 2020.

That surprises me.

I thought BMW were the biggest of those.

I wondered what's happened to 3 Series - that was always up there but doesn't feature in the top 10 models for 2014.

I think Audi overtook BMW a couple of years ago, the reason could be that Audi have a small car in the A1 whereas BMW leave that segment to MINI.

They split the range up. The 3 Series figure was always misleading, as was that irritating 'THEY SELL LOADS MORE THAN MONDEOZ' factoid.

The 3 Series range consisted of a Saloon, an Estate, a Coupe and a Convertible. Whereas now it's just a Saloon and an Estate and the Coupe and Convertible are separate model ranges badged 4 Series.

They've doubled their volume between 2010 and 2014 - the ambition is to be No. 1 premium brand before 2016. I reckon it'll come a year or so later than that. The target this year is 140k plus.

Isn't it a shame that being 'Number 1 premium brand' means 'Seller of the most low power 4 cylinder diesels with AMG SPORT PLUS MEGA SPORT SUPER AMG ULTRA MEGA in the model name'.

Premium in brand only. Sigh.

MINI adds another 53,000 to BMW sales.

I imagine the A1 makes up a fair bit of the difference there. That is, unless that BMW figure includes MINI. But the A1 surely sells a lot because it starts at £14000. Lots of people LOVE Audis and the A1 is probably quite an attractive buy to people. The Mercedes A Class starts at just over £20k, so Mercedes are missing out on some volume sales there. Same story for BMW if those figures don't include MINI. However the 1 series starts at just under 18 grand.

Who is making the most profit per car out of those 3 though? Porsche make an astonishing amount on each car.

Edit: Beaten to the point on the A1!
