Anyone fancy building an E36 328i trackday car?
Discussion
. . . . because if you do, I may be able to help!
Some time ago, all round bloody nice bloke Junglie offered his R plate 328i free to a good home and I was fortunate enough to be on the receiving end of his generosity. I’ve always been after one to convert into a fun, cheap trackday car and he thought it’d be a good idea too.
Shortly after, I managed to accrue an M3 Evo rear axle with the shorter ratio LSD, M50 manifold, a pair of Corbeau Revolution race seats and some HEL braided brake lines, so was pretty well set up for the build. Shortly after that though, I started competing in Ironman triathlon (a lot of endurance training) and my girlfriend and I then found out we were having a baby (who’s now 9 months old!) and to top it all off my business has now just started to grow at a rate that I can only just keep on top of.
Bottom line is, there’s little chance of me having time in the foreseeable future to get it built, which I’m absolutely gutted about, but hopefully one of you guys can benefit.
So, here’s the deal . . .
I’d like Junglie’s 328 to be passed on to someone who’s got the same idea for it that I did - namely converting it into a track day car. More importantly (and unlike me) you must have the time to do it!
It’s in pretty good nick and as I picked it up from Junglie (bit of rust on the n/s/r wheel arch and a scuff on the drivers door). It’s been partially stripped already (mainly carpets) - some thieving p***y cut the cats off the exhaust during our premises move a couple of years ago, so it’ll need a cat back system (about 100 quid s/hand I think) or a new centre cat section (about 140 quid) if you want to keep it road legal. I’ve not started it in a while, but it was running perfectly before storage - the battery will be flat as a dab, so it’ll need a new one . . . I may actually have a spare one in the office which you’re welcome to have for what I paid for it.
Ideally I’d like to have everything taken in one hit - Junglie’s car is free to the best home, just make me a reasonable offer for all the other bits and pieces. To ensure it looks the part after all your graft is done, I’ll also throw in a graphics makeover for mates rates once it’s track ready (I’m a graphic designer and my business is one involved in signmaking/print).
Hopefully everyone’s a winner - one of you lot will get a (very) cheap track day car and it will get to be used as intended . . . all you’ll need is a trailer to pick it up and a bit of time to prep it.
There’s no massive rush, but if you’re interested, PM over the next few days - one caveat is that I wouldn’t mind joining whoever gets it for the first proper outing

Sorry guys - thought the weekend may well give me a bit of extra time to respond to questions, but turned out not to be the case!
A couple of people have asked for some piccies and here they are:-
A couple of the car (in between the snow showers today!):-

here's the seats, brake lines & M50 manifold with throttle body:-

and as the axle is currently stored under one of our benches in the workshop (and not exactly the easiest thing to get out and move!), I've shamelessly lifted this piccie:-

from this ad on ebay - not sure that mine's got the handbrake cables still on, but other than that it's as you see there and includes lower ratio diff, subframe, arms, driveshafts, discs & calipers.
Any questions though, just drop me a PM.

Top man, nice to see this sort of thing
I already have a 328i for exactly this purpose, and don't have the driveway space for a second, but if the Evo rear end goes begging I would be very interested in it. Give me a shout if you find it left over, would much rather get one from a fellow PHer than the murky depths of eBay.

Cheers!

I'll let you know if I'm left with the axle - I wasn't really keen on having to sell anything on there I've got to say!
