Hi, I need some advice please, I'm looking at buying an old Number plate ending in 'e' , I have a 52 plate car that I would like to put it on, can I use black and silver plates?

Thanks

No Morgan got a yellow vx220 and thought black and silver plates would look nice.

Date based... (as above)

or country based - so get residency in Jersey for example and you can put it on your car smile

My neighbours had them on a Mitsuoka Viewt and a Triumph motorbike but ended up having to put the standard plates back on. They're only acceptable in Guernsey.

I've tried black and silver plateson an M3 E30, an Evo 8 and an Integra Type R.
You will get pulled - and given a ticket ( to replace with standard plates.)

I still think it looks nice on a black car but not worth the hassle.

Is it not the same as tax exemption is (was) in that the car is eligible as long as it was BUILT before 1st of January 1973, not registered?

(The reason I say was is that the government changed the year to 1974 for tax but not historic registrations as far as I can tell)

If only someone would tell that to a couple of Bentley owners in Leeds.

Looks nice, unfortunately illegal. You can get legal pressed plates however.

I think they look terrible unless its on a car from the period they're meant to be on

That or just don't mind wasting their own time a lot. It's a £60-100 fine but no points isn't it? I guess if your driving round in a newish Bentley that's not a lot of money to card about.

I bought a new Triumph Spitfire and registered it on 1st January 1973, and had black/silver "mirrorline" plates put on it.

No one's come knocking on my door yet though......smile

Yet.
You've just blown your cover....they'll probably backdate the fines as you are bragging this !
Best bet is to drive to the beach and burn it out, crush and bury the remains, bit of plastic surgery, a Reggie Perrin then a one way ticket to Acapulco.
Or, just sign it over to me and I'll collect it this week. I'll run the risk for you buddy.

Nice motor.

I have to agree with this I'm afraid. IMO it's not worth the risk of getting pulled for illegal plates.

If you like the look of them then get them on there. What's the worst that can happen?
