Car Choice... Advice needed

Hi There

I am currently looking at my next car to get. I currently drive a VW lupo 1.4 petrol which was great as a first car but as ive had it for a while im looking for something nicer and with more power.

While looking at cars, 2 have stuck in my mind but i am unable to choose between them. Its between a BMW 120D coupe or a new shape Ford Fiesta ST.

Which ever one i get, i am looking at getting them remapped but I was wondering if people are able to offer their opinions on the 2 cars so that I might be able to choose.

I'd personally go for the BMW, but that is a personal choice and not necessarily my recommendation. My reasoning is that the driving position is more adjustable so it helps my bad back, I much prefer the balanced FE/RWD handling to FWD, and it's quieter and more refined. Plus with a BMW diesel you won't get that annoying DBW throttle lag at the top of the pedal. Both are good cars though, and if you fit in both cars well and don't mind front wheel drive, both would be fine I'm sure. The new Fiesta is a world apart from the old one.

ETA: The new shape 1 series will need the M-Sport option to handle nicely, whereas the old one was fine as standard.

I previously owned a 120D which was fine. ST by all accounts is a great little hatch.

Depends also on annual mileage etc. Test both and see which you prefer (in the same day if possible for close comparison), as they will be very different to drive and one will grab your fancy over the other.
