Silverstone Auctions Race Retro results

That 30-mile Integrale goes unsold, a Testarossa makes £200K and a Lister Jag for less than £40K

Silverstone Auctions' Race Retro sale featured an abundance of fantastic cars. PH had covered a few of them beforehand, from the 600hp Lister XJS to the Delta Integrale with 30 recorded miles and the immaculate Alfa SZ. The auction results are certainly interesting...

£50-70K expected, sold for £85,000
£50-70K expected, sold for £85,000
The Delta Integrale went unsold, as did the Ferrari 575M Superamerica and the excellent Lynx Eventer that caught our attention before the sale. So if you couldn't make it to the auction there may be the opportunity to buy a very special Lancia.

Aside from the Superamerica, it was a very successful sale for the other Ferrari lots. The 456M with just 400 miles sold for £118,125, nearly £30K above its highest estimate and a record for 456s at auction. The Testarossa with 960 recorded miles and a £130-150,000 estimate made £202,500. And a 308 GTB went for comfortably more than its estimate too, the hammer coming down at £61,313 despite £47-52,000 being predicted.

Furthermore, if not bargains then there were a few cars that sold for less than expected. The wild Lister Jaguar XJS only just scraped through its estimate at £38,813 and the beautiful Alfa 1750 GTV did similarly at £16,650. Each of the three Lotus Cortinas offered sold at less than their estimates.

Consignments are now being invited for the Silverstone's Restoration Show sale in March. The lot list is small currently but then so is our current favourite, this lovely little Abarth 595.

Is it due to 456 shape aging exceptionally well?

If the Lancia didn't meet it's reserve, it would have been interesting to know how high the bid went?

I looked at attending this auction online, but they wanted a 20% internet premium!

Not that I was looking at the £200k Ferrari, but, if you attended in person, then:

20% VAT + 10% commission + 1% card charge = £252k !

No wonder everyone is going to ebay

Silverstone is actually worse, I must have been thinking of Brooklands:

https://www.silverstoneauctions.com/buying

Like the vast majority of auctioneers, Silverstone Auctions Limited charge what is known as a buyer's premium. Our standard buyer's premium charges are 12.5% of hammer price for motor vehicles (cars and motorcycles) and 17.5% for automobilia/lifestyle items. Buyer's premium is subject to VAT at the prevailing rate on the day of the auction.

EDIT - ahhh it's just the 12.5% + VAT, not VAT on the entire sale, so the Ferrari would have had £30k added + card transaction fees

So on the 456M:
Sale price:m £118,125
Buyers Premium: £14,750
VAT on Buyers Premium: £2,950
Total paid by Buyer: £132,875

Wow!

Partly yes but also that its actually a fairly modern car. Electrics work well, spec is very good, and very useable. I use mine as a daily driver.

Lister Jag is very good value IMO if all in good condition and working, my concern with auction purchase is no warranty given or implied with any auction car sale for which you pay a 15% buyers premium for the privilage!!

Any restoration on these is expensive and will quickly surpass the sale price.

The sale price usually includes the premium. It would be an odd auction if the bidding increments resulted in a hammer price of £118,125!

£60k for a Mondial? I thought even "Ts" were worth about half that.
