Buying cars from WBAC
Discussion
Recently noticed my neighbour going from having one car in his drive, to having 4-5 cars at a time, then the next week 4-5 different cars, this has been the case since before Christmas and today I was speaking to him at the petrol station where he had his 2001 P38 Range Rover Vogue which he's also not long had.
Basically in a round about way I asked how come he had various cars all the time for a week at the most. He said that he saw a car in the yard for the local We Buy Any Car building and went in and asked if they'd sell it.
They said they're waiting on a customer making a decision, but the guys at WBAC gave him the persons details and he struck a deal with them. Ever since when we buy any car don't want to pay any more they give my neighbour a phone and he basically adds £100 to their off and buys its from the owner directly.
The range rover he had today, 2001 4.6 V8. IMMACULATE, the guys street was becoming permit only and wanted rid. WBAC offered him £300, my neighbour took it off him for £450 and it's an absolute beauty.
He also bought a car from a woman who moved to Spain and her mother is selling her stuff and sending the money over. 2004 Suzuki Vitara soft top, 12,000 MILES...WBAC offered £75 because it needed brakes, two tyres etc he bought it from her for £200 and it's worth £2k.
I asked him how we buy any car are happy to let him take their business and he said that he gives the boys who work there £50 per car he gets and they're happy to refer owners to him! WTF!

In fact I see an incentive for the guys at WBAC to undervalue knowing they may get £50 (I imagine their commision amount is lower than that per car, only a guess though)
The staff aren't in control of the pricing - they type the details into the computer and it tells them what will be paid. The only thing they could do is lie on the forms about the condition to try and generate a lower quote.GreigM said:

You sit there and watch them do it - the whole shebang....its actually a pretty open process, I was very impressed....not the sucking through teeth I had feared.Don't worry I'm just tinfoiling here, either way WBAC wouldn't be happy.

Haha it's quite funny seeing WBAC getting shafted.
Maybe if they've offered a reasonable price to the customer in the first place...
Still I can't see it ending well for your neighbour.
Looking at the amount of "UK Car Group" vehicles going through the BCA block each week, it would seem that many people are happy with / have to accept their offer.Maybe if they've offered a reasonable price to the customer in the first place...
Still I can't see it ending well for your neighbour.
On the original subject, your neighbour is a fool for telling all and sundry about it.

Very much this, his neighbour shouldn't have a huge amount to worry about compared to the guys who work there. Maybe if they've offered a reasonable price to the customer in the first place...
Still I can't see it ending well for your neighbour.

I call BS. First 4.6 I could find from 2000 on Autotrader, WBAC offer is £1440. It's either got lots wrong with it, it has far more mileage than my 140k example, or someone is telling porkies here.
