Hi

I've been looking at the Grandis and it seems either that or the VW Touran are what I need. The Grandis has excellent reviews and has the same 2.0 diesel engine as some of the Tourans.

I can't find which is the highest spec, either the Warrior or the Elegance.

Has anyone got experience of the Grandis please?

Thanks in anticipation!

I've been close to buying a Grandis on a few occasions, but never pulled the trigger.

The Warrior has the leather seats and DVD player, whilst the Elegance model has the sunroof and cruise, and can also specified with leather seats.

When I was looking to buy new the only deals were on the thirsty petrol models, but the diesels got so-so reviews for being a little underpowered and gruff.

Mauve was a popular colour and often cheaper too, for obvious reasons!

Parts prices are very high though.

A nice car at the right price, but Tourans and Galaxies etc are more plentiful and arguably better to drive.

Thank you for your reply, I appreciate it.

The Grandis seems to be a higher spec for roughly a similar amount of money to the Touran, but also a lot higher insurance group (30 compared to the Touran which is group 17). I see they're a lot rarer than the Touran as well, so could that be a reason parts are expensive??

It's the size of them and the 2 rear seats that sway me to both of these cars, over the bigger Sharan and Sedona sized 7 seaters. I need 3 full sized seats in the middle row all the time, then the last 2 folded away when not needed but comfy enough to sit adults and children in car seats when needed

I also need it to be cheap to run (I currently get 450 urban miles to a tank, spending £45 on bio diesel in my Leon)

Thanks again!

The Grandis will not be cheap to run. I suggest that you also consider Toyota Verso for a 5+2 car or Honda FRV (6 seater).

The Verso has claustrophobic 3rd row of seats compared to the Touran. The Touran has one of the best 3rd row of any MPV because the seats span the whole width of the car rather than being narrow individual items with the seat mechanisms exposed.

Also some of these cars have a very high waistline. Back in 2005 we considered the then current Verso as our first choice but even on a booster seat the kids could NOT see out of the car because they were still below the window line in the second row of seats. That's why we ended up with a Touran which has a much airier interior. Kids that can see out of the car are less bored and end up happier travellers.

I agree about claustrophobic seats in the verso but this depends on how often they are used. If regularly none of these cars are likely to be suitable as the boot is so small with the seats up. If only vw put a decent petrol engine into the tour an (2.0 tfsi) would have been ideal and I'd have bought one over the frv!
