Number Plate as an investment?
Discussion
There is a fast car coming out soon which ive seen number plate which would suit it down to the ground. Currently its at a very reasonable price (below £1000) but could imagine it at least tripling when the car is released. Its definitely not a bodge job and genuinely would look pretty cool!
Has anybody else thought of doing this or done it previously? What was you thinking before? I reckon I should go with my gut on this one and just buy it? Any warnings or horror stories haha?

buy it. whats the worst that can happen? you then re-sell the plate for a minimal loss if it doesn't increase in value? Patience is a virtue though, so don't panic if you can't sell it immediately....look at it as an x amount of year investment!Has anybody else thought of doing this or done it previously? My worry is that its hardly a liquid investment. Yeah i think patience would be key with this, i dont know how long it takes for a plate to sell on average (even a good one) but i cant imagine it being overly quickrhys92 said:

Is it already available or is it due from release from the DVLA.
If it's still with the DVLA expect a bidding war as others will be thinking of the same.

If you have the cash to spare then buy it, worst that can happen is that you have to sit on the plate for a while before you can recover your money.
im fairly young - recently out of uni so dont have it spare, but have a gut feeling about this one. if i decide not il put up what is was and hopefully someone else might give it a gorhys92 said:

What yield are you expecting?
i'd expect it at least double - i dont know much about costs involved in selling (commission, placing online etc) definitely going to do some digging before i consider it!i was given one as a rather odd gift years ago, and i don't have it on my car. I don't think they're an investment as a) they don't appreciate and b) some are pretty specific to an individual, and consequently have a narrow market. If you wanted to sell you'd need to list it with a plate dealer for years before getting less than you paid for it. st idea.

I don't think you understood the question. Very simply, the yield is the income you'd expect to receive from an investment. This number plate is not going to bring you a penny until you sell it, so it's just speculation. It is your money to do with as you wish, but don't come on here expecting nothing but praise for your wonderful eye for a fantastic investment that just so happens to not actually give you any interest, dividend or income.
Alright pal calm down im hardly expecting to be on the front of the FT - just wanted to see if anyone had done it before or had advice for a natter on a sunday. obviously it doesn't have a yield its a number plate just as most AIM share wouldnt haveBlown2CV said:
