More merging drama

I wouldn't put my car at risk blocking him. Most motorways have enough CCTV to alert the traffic police as to his whereabouts and actions. But he was driving a pretentious German car so must be a knob so it's a'right to block him, innit. Bloody Germans, coming over 'ere, driving down our 'are shoulders. I'll show that nonce who's boss in my perfectly sensible Renault that gets me from A to B economically and safely....except when I drive like a possessed prick....

Blocking driver is a self-righteous prick.
What else occurs to me is that these days no matter how aggrieved you feel you should never ever get involved in any argy-bargy, especially of questionable legality, with other motorists. I think dashcam use has now reached a sort of "critical mass" where you really have got quite a high chance of having your activities recorded.

Agree. I've been blocked from doing similar by Knight of the Road HGV drivers when the merge point is some 800 yards or more away. I wouldn't get as wound up at being impeded as the Merc driver though of course. Use both lanes and merge at the end, not up to them to police it.

Exactly what I thought. I maintain that the government should run a merging ad campaign on TV "use both lanes at all times" kind of thing. People seems scared and we end up with million mile tailbacks. Same with bus lanes on the weekend in London.Madness from the Renault driver. Amazes me the number of people who cant comprehend how to merge correctly causing situations like this!

I see similar cases a couple of times a month as there is a merge of a dual carriageway into a normal road on my way home. Despite the signs clearly saying "Use both lanes" right up to the point of the merge where it says "Merge in Turn Now", the left hand lane is always stationary backed up hundreds of yards while the right hand lane is empty. Some use the right hand lane needlessly fast and try to cut in aggressively which is irritating, but even if you use it sensibly, as I do, often some self-righteous twazzler tries to block both lanes. And assuming you do make it to the merge point, the hold up is a billion times longer than it needs to be for everyone as the same twazzlers don't understand the concept of merging in turn despite the signs and big pictures to illustrate the point for the hard-of-thinking.
In this case the Mercedes was going rather rapidly under the circumstances which may be construed as being needlessly aggressive, but like the earlier lorry-driver incident, even if something gratuitous is happening, why increase the risk of an accident or a confrontation by making it your business or just turning the other cheek? There is a distinct lack of live and let live on the roads, I feel.

This - a quick scan through the comments shows an alarming number of people who seem to think that at the first sight of a lane closed sign you should get into the open lane and anyone who goes past in the other lane is a _______.
