Who's noticed the atrocious spelling & grammar, exhibited by many sellers on E bay ? Sometimes advertising cars north of 50k and coming from exotic places like the better parts of Surrey and Buckinghamshire etc. So disappointing and hardly a good basis for a successful sale ? Please don't take me to task, as I'm but a penniless Urban Oik from a state comprehensive. I just expect more from my middle class adverts, that's all !!

I'd like to think that person never went to school to spell like DAT.

O/T, but one of the adverts at the bottom of the Sierra Cosworth page was this cool piece of rallying kit:

Sloppy work. Simple as that.

There have always been bad spellers and good spellers and from all walks of life. Bad spelling is nothing knew.

What is knew is that no one checks their work anymore. Partly because in work education by senior staff is almost non existent so younger staff members simply aren't taught these rudimentary work skills any more and partly because we have a 'that'll do' attitude more than ever before.

I am a terrible speller but was given a somewhat expensive education. My posts on PH are regularly poor English. Sometimes because the keypad on the phone just doesn't suite man digits and sometimes because I reverse letters etc. But the real reason is that I never check my writing before submitting it. In the work environment I double check everything and nothing will have either spelling or grammatical errors and this latter aspect has become even easier with technology.

So in my view it is much more down to more people not giving an arse about checking their or others' work than a recent growth in semi literates such as myself.

Oh, and I suppose we can also look at the fact that the younger generations do not operate three separate forms of English any more (domestic spoken, written and professional spoken) but often just operate with one basic form of 'street' English instead?

There you go. Perfect example of what I was saying. I have no idea whether I wrote that or my phone did etc. But the key is that I don't check what I write on PH as I don't seem it a credible use of my time.

Autocorrect or indeed dyslexia can have a real impact on spelling. I find it more offensive when it's in a stupid font in yellow - that rings more alarm bells than a mis-spelt word

So that's 18,533 posts of pure rubbish then? That's a lot of wasted time.
