Received email day after posting car advert saying
" I am resident in Swindon District and would appreciate confirmation of where to inspect including post-code, telephone number and availability!

Name number"(real name and number removed)
Just seems like odd English so suspicions are naturally raised.

Unsure how that would be a scam?
As a foreigner living in a country where I don't speak the language that well, I often buy second hand things online from private sellers. I do my best to get my words correct, spell them correctly and put them in the correct order but I'm sure I often get it wrong or it's obvious I'm not a native speaker. I'd be a bit miffed if a seller though I was a scammer because of my pidgin Dutch so please don't assume your potential buyer is dodgy because he the English does not type so well very good!

The persons name is Peter, so definately trying to sound English, even if they arent.
I googled the number and it pulled up an advert for a harley and another for a Crysler Crossfire.
I intend to ring him, but i was busy all evening last night (collecting next car).

If I'm suspicion I just email back asking them to phone, if they are genuine they will ring. To be honest in my experience genuine buyers usually ring in the first place, most emails are from scams or timewasters.

How are the ads for the Harley and the Chrysler written? Possible that the guy is genuine - you reckon he sounds it, at least. As for signing off as Peter, maybe he's Anglicising his native name? If he's not native it's possible he has a name that parallels Peter. Or something. People who aren't English born and bred - hardly an endangered species in the UK - may speak odd English... so if that's all you have to go on, it's not much."
