After a bit of reading I've found out Audi A3 3.2 has an extra exhaust silencer than the R32 highlighted in yellow below. Supposed to be a quick job to delete this section and replace with a pipe.

Couple of questions before I look into doing this, from the pic can anyone give a ball park cost I should be looking for? (maybe how long is a piece of string?)
Also, I'm thinking Mr MOT couldn't care less about this, am I right?
Thanks

Order a meter of exhaust pipe from ebay in the same diameter as yours for like £15, google 'welding and fabrication' near you. Guys could have it cut an fitted in no time.

Had a silencer taken out of my Corsa C. Cost my £40 and I provided nothing but the car.

Nice, this is what I want to be hearing. I've given a call to Powerflow as they seem to specialize in custom exhausts. Do I need to go that specialist? Or should any place which stocks exhausts be able to do it?

There's no bending involved, just welding. I went to a place called Trickett Welding who do all sorts of vehicle based stuff.

A bit more digging and turns out I have 2 of the mid silencers as they deleted one of the 2 on later cars. Quick quote from Flow Dynamics in MK and seems to be around the 100 mark with them.
Lets see how Friday goes biggrin

Is that £100 for both boxes?

Most of the labour will be just getting the car up and exhaust off, so if you're capable of doing that just modifying the exhaust would be peanuts.

Yeah, £100ish for both. I would be able to cut away the silencer but not a chance in hell of welding, also the garage will cut the siliencer in the best position so I still have the option to weld it back on if it does my tits in. But seeing how this brings it inline with R32 exhaust, shouldn't be too loud just freeing up the sound biggrin

I've heard some clips on youtube, too loud and tinny for my liking. What I'm after is to keep a bit of quietness when wafting, then a bit more noise when I've got my foot down. From what I read sounds like I should get this

+1 on back box removal.
Shedding weight from past the rear axle is only ever a good thing!!

Thanks for all the suggestions, didn't go for the backbox in the end. Too loud without and really its weight infront of the front axle we want to be losing on Audis wink

Anyway mid res deleted today and a nice straight pipe welded in by the guys at powerflow.

That's quite quick! smile Do you know if they dropped your system or just chopped and welded in situ?

I've been speaking to a guy called Dan there, seems a sound guy smile

Chopped it in place and lowered it to weld up, defiantly recommend those guys

You did not fking "delete" it, you removed it.

You can delete some text on your computer with the backspace or delete key, or you can delete hand written or printed words with an eraser or a line drawn through them. You can't delete a bloody exhaust silencer.

Moron word of the decade.
