Hi all,
I know this has been talked about before, but it seems to be getting more prolific and I am trying to work out what they do with the information gathered.
Situation: car advertsied on PH. Email enquiry, asking about history, condition, owners etc. Then asked for more pictures with extra detail. Then asking for V5 serial number, VIN and V5 issue date to do a HPI check. I then ask for a contact phone number and an invalid one provided, so I am fairly sure by this point it is a fishing enquiry.
Now I have been racking brains as to what they will do with this info as far as a possible scam is concerned. I have seen many forum posts on here asking the same and the usual responses has been - that is standard info to ask for etc.
Anyway, the only conclusion I can come to is that they will then use that information to advertise my car at a low price, with a selection of nice photos and backed up by the V5 info to do an HPI in order to scam other potential buyers in future? I can't see any other use?
