There's a car in Northern France (Pas de Calais region) that I quite fancy. UK registered originally and exported in 2012 so now on french plates.

2 issues:
1) Are there any french vehicle inspection services like the RAC/AA and lots of independents do in the UK, but french based. Tried to Google but no luck. i.e. http://www.rac.co.uk/buying-a-car/vehicle-inspecti...

2) What do I need to do in what order to make sure I'm insured and covered for Road Tax? Can I drive it in on the French plates on 1 day insurance and then sort out plate change etc once it's in my garage?

I've put this in the Business Section because that's the only section of PH I use because you get sensible answers from business people not sarccy cr@p from teens that have crashed their car through a branch of halfords. Hope that's ok mods given I'm a regular contributor to this Business sub-forum.

It's not in there any more.

How old is the car?
You can't tax it as it's not UK registered?
Does it need an MOT?
You'll need to do NOVA on HMRC.
You can insure it on the VIN.

Then there's the whole issue or driving a foreign registered vehicle in the UK. Opinions vary on that one.

Not sure, but read through his French forum or put the question.

I purchased a car in Toulouse last year (pictures only, but from an auctioneer).

It was originally UK registered but on French plates. I needed an invoice for the purchase from the Auctioneer and the French 'log book' needed stamping to show the sale to me. The French customs were very interested in this paperwork on my way into the tunnel.

The difference in my case was that I collected the car with a trailer, so did not need to drive it into the UK. You will have to declare the import for taxation purposes before you can register it in the UK again. You should get the old registration number if you can prove the link.
Very important to get hold of as much paperwork/history on the car as possible.

Good luck.
