My car is mapped for 99 Ron fuel (jap import), when I went to to th IOM around 8 years ago (in the same car) they used to have a shell garage selling v power. All was well.

Now I'm off to the IOM again on Friday and have just discovered that shell have left the island and Manx petroleum has taken over.

For those that live on the island or have visited can you advise if there are any options for high octane fuel please.

Starting to panic!

What are you doing there, racing? If not, I don't see the problem.

No racing! Just hoping to enjoy some lovely roads and scenery.

The car has been mapped to run on 99 ron petrol, which on the main land isn't ordinarily an issue. If it were just to have bog standard 95 ron petrol its starts pinking and detonating.

The Link you provided is from 2012....

OP, maybe worth asking in the Biker Banter section. Plenty of IOM regulars in there I'd guess.

Most of the filling stations are now EVF and they do sell SUL. Many performance cars on the island so assume you'll be well catered for.

You smugly suggested using google (very helpful, I'm sure the OP had never heard of it before) and posted a link that was out of date (again, very helpful).

Not sure why you bothered really.

Sorry I wasn't clear in my first post. I have indeed googled the situation and as far as I understand not just shell but all petrol stations have been taken over by Manx petroleum.

Bike banter is a good shout, will drop in there too smile

There are lots of nice cars so I'm sure I'm not the only one.

If you go to Google Maps and look at the Manx Petroleum Brown Bobby Station on Peel Rd in Douglas there is a pic of the pumps with Premuim Unleaded and Super Unleaded available. The Milestone Service Station up the road also has Premium and Super. No idea what RON their super is though.

I didn't even consider Google maps! Well done. The chaps over in bike banter suggest adding an octane booster to the premium petrol and that should do it.

There are a lot of performance cars on the IOM but if you really are worried, try Power Pour. I used it in mine at Brunters with extreme AITs and it really works. http://www.monkfishperformance.co.uk/power-pour-fu...

Also worth noting you'll spend most of your time doing 40mph unless you get up at 5am to explore the mountain road. It's full of people going about their daily business.

Can't always run imports on regular unleaded fyi, maybe a £5 emergency but it would be unwise to put in any more.

Modern cars automatically retard ignition timing if pinking is detected so it should run normally. It will just perform (unnoticeably) less.

Unless the remap has affected the car's ability to do so, something I don't know anything about, but that would be daft.

Sorry to say this but, unless the car does not have a knock sensor, then the map is ste. I've had a few cars remapped and they run fine on 95RON - you just don't get the performance out of them.
Modern cars have knock sensors to detect knock and will retard the spark accordingly. You won't get the power (or the economy) but it should run safe with no detonation.

If your car does not have an active knock sensor then I can understand this. Is it an aftermarket ECU? Does it have the ability to store 2 maps - a 99RON and a 95RON one?

What's the price difference between normal & super unleaded like on the IOM? I was in Jersey recently and standard unleaded seemed to retail for about £1.05-£1.10 (mainland was about £1.20 at the time), but super was about £1.80 a litre!

Many very highly tuned and powerful cars don't have the ability to detect knock and deal with it accordingly. Put in 95 octane fuel, drive it hard and say goodbye to a piston or two.

Nitrous Formula octane booster was very popular in the Japanese turbocharged tuning world. The earlier Impreza lads loved it and they should know what works with the earlier Subarus love of self destructing tuned engines.
