Hi everyone, I'v just bought a vauxhall combo 1.3 cdti on a 54 plate (believe it's a 2005 model)

When starting it turns over 3/4 times before starting and then idles up and down very slightly until you set off then it's fine,

At about 2500 / 3000 rpm it goes into what I believe is to be limp mode and the engine light comes on (not the spanner symbol the other one), sometimes the light comes on when starting and stays on but it varies, I'v plugged it into a computer (cheap one my mate bought for 20 pound) and it says manifold absalute pressure, I looked under the bonnet and it's clear the map sensor is brand new and it's clean inside, also the map sensor box is in the glove box.... Which makes me believe this is not the issue - I'v also unplugged the map sensor and it initially revved all the way up but after a mile the problem came back

On the motorway I can tickle the revs past 3000 and it doesn't go into limp mode .

This issue happens regardless of fuel level, which I got told to check.

Any suggestions will be more than welcome as I don't have the money to take it to a garage for them not to fix the issue.

Also I put petrol in it last week and drove 3 miles, towed it home, drained the tank and changed the fuel filter - this doesn't appear to have caused any new problems.

Thanks in advance

I'm no mechanic but surely you'd want to fill it up with diesel..

Is the new map censor a bosch one?
PO108 code?
I would say waste gate actuator stuck.access is difficult on these but with a long screwdriver you may be able to move the arm back and forth to free it.

Check all vacuum lines (look for holes / splits / "old" looking rubber hoses).

Turbo VNT vanes could be stuck as a result of lack of vacuum or just stuck anyway.

If the codes are P0243 or P0108 it could be caused by corrosion in the electro pneumatic valve. The part number is 55586478. It's a known issue covered by a technical service bulletin. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the replies, there wasn't a code it just said something like manifold absalute pressure, if there's always a code I will ask him to plug it back in....
It is a Bosch map sensor

Where do you put the long screwdriver to release the waste gate valve? Is the waste gate valve the egr valve?

And what pipes should I check? The ones connected to the map sensor??

Also there is oil on and around what I think is the alternator, it has a belt around it and in the holes are a load of wires, could this be coming from the turbo as I have heard this is a problem on these??
