This one will probably stir up a lot of emotion and nasty comments but its my opinion and Im asking others for theirs , not saying any are anymore better or worse than other opinions. So what 'cult' cars don't you see the attraction of ? Without much further ado here are some of mine . . . . .

Subaru - Just don't get them at all. May be quick, may handle well but are ugly as sin. Take the bonnet scoop away and the ironing board rear spoiler it has to be one of the most boringly styled cars on the planet.
VW Golf - cant see anything appealing at all, never have , never will.
Beetle - Wouldn't take one as a gift.

Of your 3 listed 'cult' 'cars'
1 isn't a car it's a brand
and the other 2 are 2 of the best selling cars of all time, hardly obscure or with a small following as would be expected for something to be described as cult

Ok so I can conform to your high standards - Im referring to the Subaru Impreza.
The other 2 may be the best selling cars of all time - doesn't change my opinion.

I've not driven a civic, but i've always enjoyed driving an MX-5 through the smaller and twistier roads. Its a very well engineered car and does what its supposed to very well. Too slow for me to own one though without fettling, but the modding scene is well catered for.

Classic Beetle. Fugly, slow, noisy, and did I mention, fugly. About as far from cool as their owners are from being "different". A car for old men is all that comes to mind.

Bristols. Ugly, ugly, and be honest with yourself, UGLY. Only of any interest to some people because they are (were) so expensive new that surely expensive must mean good? No, a handbuilt Morris Marina with a WW2 era engine, ill suited but obvious parts bin fittings internally and externally and a bodyshell that should be 2 ft further forwards on the wheelbase is just an expensive lump of st.

Modern Morgans - Aero 8 and the like if there is anything else. Pukeworthy. Morgans appeal lies in their vintageness, at least in looks. Modernising vintage styling is just ridiculous. Go modern all the way, or stick with vintage.

Boring run of the mill 40 and 50 year old cars whose only claim to fame is being old. And looked after. Like old Cortinas. They are still Cortinas. Sort of, like today's Mondeos, but older. OK, they do the job, but spice rating = zero chillies. Their owners are people who probably have nothing in their lives to interest me.

Imprezas are iconic, deal with it biggrin

Cult cars I don't get:

Minis, both original and the BMW offering. The originals are slow, dangerous and ugly and that is just their good points. The BMW Minis are cynical marketing exercise and I automatically want to slap anyone I see in one!

Old Mercs - big square dull heavy ugly things like the W123 ...yuck! No I don't care how reliable and well made they are!

70s onwards Rolls Royces and Bentleys.... ostentatious nonsense!

Anything diesel powered.... in fact are there any cult diesel powered cars.. if so I hate them biggrin

Oh and as above.. Morgans.. pathetic excuses for automobiles that have no place in the late 20th century let alone now!

So by that token you won't mind if I come and slap you when I see you in whatever car you have?

Erm...that IS the appeal of them, well that and the WRC connection. There are a lot of people who judge such things to be far more important than looks.

Not sure what a 'cult car' is (unless it's a typo and you mean Mercedes...).

But... I never got 911s and still don't.

Equally, I hated VW Beetles as a kid (A neighbour had one I travelled in quite regularly) - Noisy, uncomfortable, basic - but everyone else has always seemed to love them!

Old VW's in general, I've seen too many friends nearly bankrupted by an old Beetle or Campervan. It seems they never die, just piss oil all over the drive, oxidise in front of your eyes then overheat and seize the engine. Then piss more oil everywhere.
