Any know if it's possible to locate a MOT test centre from the number?

Found an old car and interested to see where abouts it's located.

MOT test number 9896 4017 9933

Thanks

You might be able to find it on this list : https://data.gov.uk/dataset/mot-active-vts

IF it's still active and you have the test centre number.

Thanks, just found that link myself but not sure I'm looking at the right data.

Poss
Gale Road MOT Station, Kirby
Burns Garages, Cheshire
Richardsons of Congelton, Cheshire

Last test was Aug 2015 so should still be an active station.

I Checked my car MOT history yesterday on the DVLA link.

The last 4 mot's have all been done at the same garage.

Each of mot numbers are different. It appears that the number listed is a certificate/serial number rather than a Test Centre number.

Could you check if the middle four digits, (or any four) are the same?

They do not relate to the test centre, the test centre number is printed on the bottom right of the certificate opposite the centre's address. You seem to have the test centres address in your previous post. If you try here https://www.gov.uk/check-mot-history-vehicle when it's up and running again you should get the complete MOT history back to around 2006 which includes test cntres addresses.

Thanks for the link Mrreg, I'm sure the old link gave out the test centre as well, I remember seeing my name up there a few times.

The old one where you needed the V5 or MOT number did, the new one doesn't.

So there's no way of finding the test centre from the 12 digit number on an mot certificate?

It says who did the test on the certificate.

If you need a duplicate for a currently valid test, then any test centre can issue one - a tenner, I think.

I can’t find the certificate.
It’s been off the road for a while but I want the same garage to do some work for me. My mechanic took it last time but I’ve lost touch with him too

Can they issue a test certificate that’s expired?

Hi,

I am based in Ireland and in the process of purchasing a car that was imported from the UK. Having done my background check I discovered a big discrepancy between the mileage on the clock (84,000 miles) and the mileage recorded during the last MOT test in 2018 (130,000 miles).

When I told the seller here in Ireland what I had discovered they claimed the the mileage recorded by the MOT was mistakenly recorded in KM's and not miles. This seems plausible considering the mileage pattern in the service history from 2015 - 2018 but DVSA will not accept this a proof of a mistake and said they will need a letter from the MOT test centre stating that they made an error when inputting the mileage in 2018.

This is why I am here, I cannot locate the test centre as the V5C number is obsolete when imported into Ireland. All I have is the serial number; 729076948707 and the reg: DV14GNU.

Can anybody help me locate this test centre??

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks

So they think that someone drove 70k in a year in a diesel Astra? I guess that’s possible, but not sure you’d want to smile

Did they not give you a copy of the MOT certificate?

I can’t help with locating the test centre, but it is a diesel Astra that did 60k in the first 3 years, then failed its first MOT, that doesn’t sound like a well looked after car. Given how many Astra’s are around, I’d just go looking for another one.

Also, I only know of one car that you can changes the speedo from MPH to KPH, the S2000. I strongly suspect it has been clocked on the way to Ireland.

How many cars have you tried?
You can do this with virtually all modern cars with an electronic readout. Sometimes there is a user choosable option in the settings menus, but where this is not possible it can be done in the workshop with a diagnostic machine.

I'd place much more emphasis on the car's current condition than on the condition of consumables which have now been replaced.
